When you travel to Cabarete, you usually think of wind, waves and kitesurfing action. But just 20 minutes to the west, in the sheltered bay of Sosúa, a completely different world opens up – a colorful underwater landscape full of life. The north coast of the Dominican Republic is a real insider tip among divers.
Sosúa offers ideal conditions for beginners and advanced divers. The water is pleasantly warm all year round and visibility is often over 20 meters – perfect for immersing yourself in the Caribbean underwater world. Numerous professional diving schools offer equipment rental, guided dives and PADI courses.
There are over 20 different diving spots off the coast of Sosúa – including colorful coral gardens, impressive rock formations, small caves and artificial wrecks. Particularly popular is the “Airport Wall” reef, which slopes gently from a depth of 12 to over 30 meters and is home to rays, moray eels, barracudas and turtles.
If you don’t want to dive straight into the depths, you will also find fantastic snorkeling spots in the bay of Sosúa. The variety of tropical fish and colorful corals can be experienced up close directly from the beach – an experience for the whole family.
Sosúa is only 15-20 minutes away from Cabarete by car or cab. Many of our guests combine their diving trip with a relaxing day on the beach of Sosúa or a sundowner in one of the beach bars with sea view.
